  • Forecast of industry development

This report is unmatched in detail and breadth of coverage. The report provides a crystal clear picture of all the key aspects of the natural gas industries of Russia and Central Asia. Thorough research culminated in finding the apparent balances from the key producer field to the final consumer. Gazprom and third parties’ role in supplying export markets. The report contains information on individual large gas field reserves.

The first four chapters of the report describe the recent developments of the energy industry in Russia and energy balance changes in the last decade. These chapters include a detailed discussion of various issues affecting energy industries development from taxation and state budget to requirements in electricity capacity to meet future demand. Differences in various energy sources management and industry structures are discussed.  Key defining factors of natural gas consumption are reviewed.

Not all of the gas produced enters Gazprom’s pipelines. Chapter Five provides an analysis of Gazprom pipeline system intake and discharge, including transit volumes from Central Asia. The Crisis effects are reviewed. Chapter Six analyzes the domestic consumption of natural gas in Russia by consumer segments.  Deliveries and key consumers in each region of Russia are reviewed. Segment consumption by Federal Okrug is presented

Export of natural gas by Gazprom is analyzed in detail in Chapter Seven of the report. Russian-Ukrainian Gas Wars are examined and impact of those on transit and consumption of Central Asian gas. A detailed review of the export pricing formula and a new contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz is included. Central Asian gas import and transit analysis is presented in Chapter Eight. Development in natural gas pricing for exported Central Asian gas: history and current status. Key export routes review, supported by apparent pipeline balances from producing regions to an export point.

Chapters Nine to Fifteen describe in detail regional gas production: key producing fields by ownership, reserves, and production; annual and monthly production of key producing units; and regional pipelines.

Russian industry investment and description of the pipeline system are reviewed in chapters Sixteen and Seventeen. Gazprom investment level dropped two times in 2009. Future investment plans in pipelines and upstream are reviewed.

Russian and Central Asian gas systems were interlocked until the first alternative pipeline Turkmenistan-China was commissioned in December 2009. With this new pipeline launch, Russian exclusivity to Central Asia natural gas resources is gone. Central Asian gas industries are reviewed in Chapter Eighteen.

Chapter Nineteen concludes the report with a forecast for 2020. Forecasts for each country are built upward from domestic and export demand for gas produced in the country to the consolidated demand for regional gas. The key driving forces for domestic demand are reviewed. Export forecasts include a forecast of consumption in export countries and account for the influence of the political situation development.
